So I've read about trying to apply to the earlier rounds than later. Does anyone have any thoughts about applying to R2 vs R3 (if the school has 4 rounds). The application process is taking longer than I thought - so I probably can't get in to R2. However, if I kill myself over finishing it, I MAY be able to get it into R2. So my question is- should I go for R2 or R3. Does competition get much tougher by R3?

Depends on what the school calls each round.
For example, Tuck and Duke have "early decision" rounds, then three "regular rounds". If you apply in the third round (2nd "regular round"), your chances aren't that much different from the second round.
However, Cornell has four rounds, but the first round is a "regular round". Applying in the third round is very difficult (adcom mentioned this on my visit).
