Your issues are with math (not GMAT) that go well beyond the GMAT and are probably taking roots in undergrad or high school or even earlier. You need to find those holes and fix them until then it is of little use to try to study the GMAT. Two ways I can see out: MGMAT Math Foundations (they just released the second book) or a high school Tutor (you don't need the $200/hr GMAT tutor at this stage, a $35/hr will do) to help you find the issues and setup a study plan.

Thanks bb for the feedback.
I did go though the MGMAT foundations book even before I started the actual GMAT prep. That was back in April, and I guess I need to go though it again. :)
I have an hour left to reschedule the test (Right now it's on Dec12). Dedicating the same hrs, what do you think would be a reasonable time to reschedule? I was so hoping to get it out of the way before Christmas....

It all depends on how fast you can fix the gaps and how fast you can find someone to help (I rarely recommend private tutoring but in this case, it may be worth the money and your time). I think you will also enjoy it a lot more, as long as you can find a decent tutor/teacher. Try to start with as basic elements as possible.

By the way, math is helpful in general and you will have to overcome it either for the GMAT or your Finance classes. Sooner or later you will have to face it - that's what bschool does to you - makes one pay for all those mistakes they have made (never thinking they would catch up with the). I surely paid my dues.

P.S. I do have to say, it will be a glorious feeling to be free from math issues and not to have to dread it.

Haha. So true. I can still remember how in grade 8 or 9 my dad was helping me solve word problems (train A and train B....)and he was the one telling me that I will never need it anyways.... Who new!!
I rescheduled it for Dec 28 and started looking for math tutor on craigslist.
Fingers crossed!
Thanks.

Good luck - don't try to go too cheap on tutor by the way. The better one will be able to get you up and running much faster. It is usually about the way our brains work. Some people just don't learn the usual way and they need a different approach to grasp it. So, don't feel bad - just need to figure out how to learn it more efficiently for you as obviously the traditional approach fails somewhere.

bb,
Thank you for your advice.
I rescheduled the test for Dec 29th, hired 2 tutors - one that specialized in GMAT and one that had a PHD in math, but didn't know anyting about GMAT. DId 4 sessions with each one.
At the end, it increased my confidence, and the one sure thing that i learned was for problems where I couldn't get to an answer to pick an answer in my thoughts, and then pick a different answer on the test because I knew that with my logic I would fall for the GMAT trap every time.
The result was MAth 46, Verbal 40 with a total score of 700.
Still don't know how to solve 50% of rate/work problems, but i don't care :)
