I believe MIS people - more often than not - end up as BAs/SMEs. Further growth would mean project/team management and so on. I may be wrong, but it doesn't seem to me as the fastest route to a top position.

If you have an IT background, I'd say that an MBA in Technology/Systems/Operations is a better bet.
