Undergrad GPA: 3.66
Undergrad degree: Business
Undergrad School: Top 5 public school
Experience: 4 years - 1 year right out of college at a small consulting firm, then 3 years at a small tech company doing a mix of corporate finance and corporate finance. 2 promotions so far at my current company. I will have 5 years of experience by the time I attend school.
Volunteer experience: I have logged a lot of hours over the past 5 years at a local mentorship non profit for middle school and high school kids
About me: United States/M/26
Target Schools: 1). Wharton
2). HBS
3). GSB
4). Kellogg PT - Weekend
I am pretty sure I can get into Kellogg Pt no problem, but am curious what my odds would be if I applied to the other schools.
I am also curious what could help my case. I am planning on retaking the GMAT and am hopeful I can get a 730 or 740. Would this really help my application that much? Would waiting another year for more experience help that much? Any thing else?
Hello
bmh1176,
Thanks for sharing and including your target schools!
You have a solid undergrad GPA and GMAT score. The average GPA range for the programs you are targeting (from the class of 2022) is a 3.6 to a 3.8. The average GMAT range spans from a 722 to a 733. That said, you may want to consider adding one or two more schools to your list that have slightly lower averages as “safer” options.
Personal MBA Coach recommends targeting 5 to 7 schools to maximize your chances of acceptance.
Looking at the stats we just shared, I do think a 730 or 740 would give you a leg up in your applications. Of course, I would also have to know more about your MBA goals and work experience. From what you have shared, five years of experience is certainly sufficient, though what matters most is that you feel ready to apply to business school at this stage in your life.
There are a handful of other factors to consider as well, such as selecting your recommenders and developing your personal story. These are components of
