I have a good problem here and hopefully some of you do as well. I found out last week that I got accepted to the only school I applied to, which happens to be in the city that I already live in. So, I don't have to move and I have some time to kill before starting the program.
The obvious choice would be to sublet my apartment, pack a bag, and travel for a couple of months, but are any of you doing something different? I'd love to be productive in some capacity over that period of time rather than just wandering (I've already done plenty of that).

Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury to travel around before school starts. However, for anyone who can, I'd highly recommend it. It's not only relaxing, but it's probably the last time that you really get a couple of months off from life in general (before you retire).

Feel free to disagree, but I felt that the time between leaving my job and starting my MBA was on par with when I was 5 or maybe even better - I was on top of the world: I was going to a great MBA program (something none of my friends did), I had a whole new world ahead of me (new life, new apartment, new relationships, etc). I did not have to worry about money too much (yes, I had loans but I would make millions after graduation, right?... I still have them). Bottom line, it was one of the best and stress-free times of my life. No family, no mortgage, no nothing - only upside ahead of me.
I had completely unrealistic expectations about business school but I did not know that back then. It was a time of adventure and excitement and a break in employment that was completely legitimate. I would highly recommend traveling or taking it easy for a bit. Bschool is tough (thought you can make it easy and just coast through - big mistake). You want it to be tough, and if you worked hard for a year - do relax. You need it, you deserve it, and chances are, you won't have a chance to do it until you are 65 (or perhaps 75, depends how social security works out)
