hi Hjort 
i am applying olnine for all the MBA programs. i wanted a clarification.
when i claim in my essays that i have won a prize at an essay contest at college or that i have been a volunteer for a non-profit organization, then do i have to back the claim by sending certificates to prove these?? i mean, is that what other applicants generally do? or the school does not expect you to send copies of the certificates?
would be great if you'd let me know

My general answer is no, you do not need to send any paperwork certifying that you were a volunteer or won a particular prize. Of course, it is a good idea for you to keep this information on hand in case there are any questions about it and to facilitate entering the correct information on your application or resume. Often this information is not considered important enough that you need to affirmatively prove that you did it- your word will suffice unless you make outlandish claims about having won a Nobel prize or something along those lines.
