Hi Everyone,

I recently graduated from Missouri State University (August 2015) as an International Student with my major being Marketing Management

Male,
GMAT score : 730
GPA: 3.44

Lived in and received college-level instruction in 3 different continents (USA, Belgium, UAE)
Work experience - Started as a janitor, promoted to the front desk, and then promoted to Building Manager all within a relatively short amount of time (Less than 1.5 years)
In the process of learning my 3rd language
Youngest ever employee of Etihad Airways, one of the worlds leading airlines (17 Years old). Currently with American Airlines
Strong multi-cultural background with diversity management and international business training
Received a number of scholarships and awards for : Public Speaking, Academic Merit, Presentations, Essay writing.

Probably irrelevant but - High school soccer (Won nationals 4 years in a row), AS Level results Math (A), Geography (A), ICT (B)

My biggest concern:
Although I have experienced a lot first hand business and college-level experience across the world, I am only 22 years old.
My work experience pre-graduation and postgraduation adds up to about 3.5 Years by Sep 2016 - Which is when I am hoping to apply for
However my postgraduation work experience would only be about 1 year by Sep 2016 - Well below the average.

I also believe I can do a lot better in my GMAT, I got 730 by studying for less than a month and really had never even looked at a GMAT exam until I walked in to do, so I am taking it again in December with more preparation. I understand it probably would not make much of a difference, but I can never be happy with something when I know I could have done better haha.

Thanks guys!!

Hey there,
So first of all, let me say that you have a super interesting story! I mean from Janitor to Marketing manager in Airline :) Sounds awesome.

I admit I do have some confusion as to your chronology, but let's say a few things:
- 3.5 Years is more than enough experience to apply to B-school
- One question you might want to consider is: why do you want to do an MBA immediately after your Masters. why not gain experience and THEN do your MBA?
- What are your goals?
- Don't Retake!!! It's a waste of time for you. A 730 is awesome!

Whatever the case, since there is really no rush. Why not just take it easy and start planning now for a nice and comfy and easy R1 application in 2016?

:)

Best,
Jon

Jon, thank you for your response! I apologize if my wording was a little confusing. I wanted to clarify the 3.5 years of work experience consists of mainly part-time positions, my post graduation work experience would only be 1 year. I've been looking a lot into the MMS program at Duke and I was thinking about giving that a go instead of the MBA for now, as a lot of people have told me I would need considerable WE in a managerial role to have a shot at the MBA. Do you think I'll be a good candidate for the MMS Fuqua program?

Thanks!

Hesham

Well Hesham, it's up to you. You can do an MMS or you can do and MiM, and they may help you reach your goals... In general the MBA is the more prestigious degree though. So then the question becomes, is it worth it to wait it out, or is it better to push things now? And that depends on sooooo many things, that I can't easily answer the question.

But do feel free to drop us a line with all your details.... it'd make things easier...

Cheers,
Jon
