What have I done?

Folks, I just did it! I just signed up for my 3rd attempt on the sucker, GMAT. Thanks to the pressure from Wharton!! (80%tile on each section) 1st Attempt : 660 (Q49,V31) 5.0 2nd Attempt: 700 (Q50,V34) 5.5 3rd Attempt: ? I am expecting 730+ (Q51, V38) yeah baby! I don't really believe that 30+ will do the magic, but at least I will know that GMAT score was not the reason for my failure if the unthinkable thing happens. :lol:

I will continue to work on my apps until two weeks before the exam. Then, I will take 1.5 weeks off to prepare for the sucker. 12-29-06 D-day. I will not sleep more than 6 hours per day for next two months; my current average is about 7.5hrs. IF(big if) I get 730+, I will remove Virginia and Cornell from my list so that I can focus on my dream school. Wharton, I am doing all this for you baby! In return, don't even dare to turn back on me! :lol:

What if you score 680? or 650? I think 700 should be good enough if your app. is polished and balanced.

Think about the "what ifs". If you are very certain you'll improve then go ahead, but otherwise walk away. I read another post (don't remember where) about a guy who went from 700 to 650 and was feeling miserable about how he'd blown it. Others were explaining that now his judgement would come into question.

Anyway, 730 could help vs. 700, but watch out (or at least have your B plan handy) for the (God forbid) improbable yet not impossible lower grade.

And about the schools not even looking at anything but higher grades, I heard first hand from an Adcom member at an Ultraelite that: "Yeah, we consider only your highest scores, BUT, we also look into trends. For eg.: if you score 450 and then 2 months later you score 700+, I'm gonna ask: did you get a brain transplant?"

So going from 700 to anything lower could marginally diminish the value of your current 700.

I am totally aware of the "what if".
However, I really appreciate your advice and concern.
Let's hope that either I prepare enough to feel confident to retake the exam or I come to a sense to blow away $50 and tp reschedule it for next Summer. hahahah :lol:

I would not worry if your receive a somewhat lower score on your third administration. Serial re-takers are the cause of genuine concern- people who fixate on the GMAT and seem to have an almost pathological need post a higher score at the expense of the rest of their application (or, alternativey, seem like the are trying to game the system by capitalizng on chance). It is hardly unusual for someone to wish to take the test a third time after increasing his/her school on the second administration.

I would not report the scores to any colleges on 2nd attempt until AFTER i get my score, if I were you.

This way, if you score higher, great, shell out the money and report the scores, otherwise let the colleges not know that you took another attempt and scored less..
