What I wish I had done better? Admitted Student Advice: Part 3
We have a TON of people applying to MS programs that stop being active on the forums once they start classes. Rightfully so, because MS degree can be HARD! So I wanted to get a "last call" from all our folks before they step into their fancy business school oxfords. Here is what they had to say about what they thought they did well.
Please remember that these comments are completely unadulterated and we have not done any edits to them at all. Some of them may be controversial and some of them may not! I am glad the community was candid in sharing their advice and I hope you all prospective students would appreciate it.What do you think you could have done better?

Get an higher GMAT score. I prepared the exam in 3 weeks and scored a 670, but people should aim a 700+ to improve their admission chances.

I could have done more in-depth research on the curricula of the programs I applied to.

I think I could have prepared for the GMAT a bit more strategically/methodologically to increase my input/output ratio. Also, I could have researched better what different schools are out there and what they offer in terms of double/joint degrees.

Definitely my Gmat! I prepared for over 6 months and I even touched a 670/Q50 during my mock tests. But I couldn't pull it off on the test day. I had already taken a year off plus my GPA was around 2.9 to 3.2. The thought of not making it to a reputed school always bothered me during the test day. I got the 600 in my 3rd attempt (I got a 460 and 570 in my first two) and on the day of my 3rd attempt, I only entered one school (Esade) in the list before starting my GMAT exam.

I could have scored a better GMAT and a better GPA.

I could have gotten a better GPA in undergrad and may 10-20 additional points in the GMAT (got a 710). Though that was enough for LBS, I may have missed out on a scholarship opportunity. The above two factors also led me to be rejected without an interview from both HEC Paris and INSEAD.

If I had had chances, I would have taken the GMAT test before the epidemic. When epidemic happened, all test centers were closed in my country and I couldn't take the test. I didn't have a score when I submitted the application. Thanks to LBS's flexibility and consideration, they assessed my quantitative background in other ways.

I could have planned my GMAT timeline better in order to apply for Round 1 by November. Many of my applications were in Round 3 and I think that might have impacted my scholarship amount.
