Hey simonden4,

An SOP is a very important document in your application that can affect your chances of admittance by 30%. That said, if you bluntly mention that you were preparing for several service exams and were not doing anything in those past two years you may get an instant rejection, and it will be very difficult for you to showcase your profile on this really competitive land scale.

What I would suggest you do is dig deeper into your profile and experiences so far. Be honest to share your life story, your motivation, and lesson learned while preparing for the national-level civil service exam and in addition to this, mention any other extracurriculars (for example NGO) you participated in while bringing to light the learning you gained from the same.

So, basically you need to create a story to show how you realized that now a Business management career is the next step meant for you and mention the goal behind it.
It is very important that you focus on this aspect otherwise the decision of pursuing a masters might look like a back-up option to your civil services aspiration.

You need to look into your profile, you have to brainstorm and figure out what to pitch and what you can do to showcase your profile as uniquely different from that of the other applicants.

You can also check our client case studies to know how the right strategy can justify the gap years via the link below https://www.mim-essay.com/client-stories-3

Also, you can check out our flagship service MiM Essay Editing
https://www.mim-essay.com/masters-in-management-essay-help/?gcf where we help you brainstorm the essay content, structure the essays and then via successive edits proofread them and hone them to perfection.

Hope this helped!
