What is the angle between the minute and the hour hands of the clock which shows 12:24?

long hand at 30 minutes = 180 degrees, therefore, long hand at 24 minutes = 144 degrees. But, at 12:24 the short hand is not perfectly lined up with the 12. So I'm guessing 132 is the answer. Does anyone have a better (more precise) solution to this?

To me, one way is to know the angle of the short and long legs relative to 12.
Your are right to use 30
.... It's avoid some calculations
Short leg
ShortLegAngle = (nb min) * 180/30 = 24*180/30 = 6*24 = 144
Long leg
Here, we have to convert the min in hour.
LongLegAngle = (nb hour + (nb min)/60) * 180/6 = (0 + 24/60) * 180/6 = 24*3/6 = 12
Thus, we have the answer :
Angle = ShortLegAngle - LongLegAngle = 132
