Statement 1: Area of the floor in Dan's bedroom =300 square feet. Insufficient.
Statement 2: There is an exposed floor of 24 inch or 2 feet between the rug and the wall. Insufficient. Because we can't find the width and length of the rug and the area of the floor is also unknown.
(1)+(2), We know the area of the floor is 300 square feet. But the area of the rug is again not known. Say, length and breadth of the floor is 15*20. So, Area of the rug will be (15-4*(20-4)=176 square feet. Required area = 300-176=124 square feet. But, say, length=50 and breadth=6, Area of the rug=(50-4)*(6-4)=92. Required Area=300-92= 208 square feet. Insufficient.
Hence, IMO, Option E.
