D

The distance between (-1) to (5) on X-axis is 6.
The distance between (2) to (8) on Y-axis is 6.

So, the area is 6*6 = 36

As the question mentions that ABCD is a square, we only need to know any one side of the square.

The distance between A and B = 8 - 2 = 6
Hence, the area of the square = 6^2 = 36.

Ans: D.

The distance between C(5,8) to D (5,2) is 6
So Area = 6*6 = 36
Answer D

Any 2 points distance can be taken to calculate the area since this is a Square

We see that the length of either side BA or side CD represents the difference between the y-coordinates.

Thus, side BA = side CD = 8 - 2 = 6.

We also see that the length of either side BC or side AD represents the difference between the x-coordinates.

Thus, side BC = side AD = 5 - (-1) = 6.

So, the area is 6 x 6 = 36.

Answer: D
