(1) The edge AB of the triangle is 8 inches.

(2) Triangle ABC is equilateral

(1) Only one side is provided. No information about the height or type of the triangle. Insufficient.

(2) The type of the triangle is provided. No other information bout the length of the sides, height etc. Insufficient.

(1) & (2) together,
We have one side(s) = 8 inches and the type of the triangle is equilateral.
Therefore, the area is (√3/4)*s^2. Sufficient.
