(1) 4 markers or 6 pens or 12 pencils can be purchased for \$36

(2) If the cost of each marker is increased by \$3, 5 less markers can be purchased for \$180

Option A is sufficient.
A) Since 4 markers can be purchased for \$36 , price for 1 marker would be 4\$.

B) Let's say price of 1 marker is X
No of markers can be purchased for \$180 is y
So xy =180
Now as stated (x-3) (y-5) =180
XY+15-3x-5y=180
From above we can't determine the value of x,y since both of them are unknown.
Insufficient B

Ans would be A.

Ans must be D

A is straight forward.

B - 180/x - 180/(x+3) = 5

This should give is a negative and a positive square root. Discard the negative root.

Hence, D
