Hi Experts. I am really sad to see my timing in RC. I normally don't get much time to do 4th RC passage in the mock test. I take around 10 to 11 mins per passage in total. My reading time is 5 to 6 mins and question answering time is 4 to 5 mins. How to pace my RC timing? Technical and humanities passage scares me a lot. People say one should not take more than 7 mins to do one passage but can they really comprehend the passage well in 7 mins?
Respectfully, Verve42

Yours is a common problem. RC passages are designed to be very tricky to comprehend with lots of details that can consume much of your test time if you try to comprehend everything. For timing, you should spend 2-3 minutes per passage. My guess is that you are spending WAY more time than that. The idea on the first read is to understand the context and main points of the passage, not all the details. You are basically building a map of the passage during the 2-3 minute reading period so you can answer the general questions without going back and so you know where to go to answer specific questions. You should spend 1:30 (average) on each question. That puts you at around 7 minutes for short passages and 9 for long passages.
Work on getting the time down on your first read. Don't worry about details you can't understand. For example, if it's talking about the challenges of applying a crazy theory, do worry about understanding all the challenges, just remember that challenges are discussed in that part of the passage.
Best of luck! KW
