the equilateral triangle gives the largest area so it is A.

area = =sqrt(3)/4

i got it. the the issoceles, not the equilateral, triangle gives the largest area. i was confused between the two triangles..

But, the triangle is an isosceles triangle (given). so, it has to be something else beside being an isosceles triangle that would maximise the area.

how? any example.[/quote]

Himalayan, the two sides of the given triangle are equal to the radius of the circle. Hence it's isosceles. We need some other information to maximise the area.

I solved it using calculus. But, I'm still looking for an easy method.
