If one is through with the concept of Pythagorean Triples one can mark the right answer within 10 secs...

The Diagonal Distance must be (B) 5 Miles.

So, The difference of the positive distance must be 3 + 4 - 5 = 2 , Answer must be (C) 2

PS : Thanks to CounterSniper for pointing out my inadvertent error.

The distance of the former path is 3 + 4 = 7 miles. The distance of the latter path, x, is the length of the hypotenuse of the triangle formed, and it can be found using the Pythagorean theorem:

3^2 + 4^2 = x^2

25 = x^2

5 = x

Therefore, the difference of the two distances is 7 - 5 = 2 miles.

Answer: C
