Shouldn't the answer be E? Because x can be 60 as well according to both statements.

What is the remainder when the positive integer x is divided by 88 ?

(1) When x is divided by 11 the remainder is 3.
(2) When 3x is divided by 24 the remainder is 12.

Shouldn't the answer be E? Because x can be 60 as well according to both statements.

60 divided by 11 gives the remainder of 5, not 3.
