Can someone please explain how the second statement is not sufficient to solve the question ? I first squared both sides and divided by 2 to get 3. Is there any other way to solve the second statement ?

Posted from my mobile device

When you take the square root from \((2x + 3)^2 = 81\) you get \(|2x + 3| = 9\) (recall that \(\sqrt{x^2} = |x|\)), which gives x = -6 or x = 3.
