Hello all

My attempt:

Statement 1:

$$(-k)^5 = -k^5$$
$$-k^5 = -k^5$$
True for any value of $$k$$. Therefore not solvable with this statement

Statement 2:

$$(-k)^4 = -k^4$$
$$k^4 = -k^4$$
$$k^4 + k^4 = 0$$
$$2*k^4 = 0$$
Thus $$k=0$$
Hence solvable.

I will go with option $$B$$

1 Statement give us nothing, since K could be either positive or negative.
Take 2 or -2 for example, the result will be the same always.
Not Suf

2 Statement 2 show us that K can not be a negative nor a positive.
take 2 e.g
(-2)^4= 16
-(2^4)=-16
Thus the only possibility is K=0

OFFICIAL SOLUTION:

What is the value of K?

(1) (-k)^5 = -k^5. This is the same as -k^5 = -k^5, which holds true for any value of k. Not sufficient.

(2) (-k)^4 = -k^4. Since (-k)^4 = k^4, then we have that k^4 = -k^4, which gives 2k^4 = 0, or k = 0. Sufficient.

Bunuel : Here,

(-k)^5 = -k^5
-k^5 + k^5 = 0.

Am i missing something?

So? What is the value of K? You got 0 = 0. You cannot get k from it.
