What is the value of the sum of a list of n odd integers?

(1) n = 8
(2) The square of the number of integers on the list is 64.

Kudos for a correct solution.

let the odd integers be a1, a2....an. Question asks a1+a2+a3---an = ?

from 1: n=8, so NSF
from 2: n2 =64; so n =8 same as 1 so NSF

1+2 = NSF

so answer is E

Solution: Determine the sum of a list of n odd integers

Statement 1: n = 8
Insufficient as we don't know the exact numbers

Statement 2: The square of the number of integers on the list is 64
Same information as in Statement 1, Insufficient as we don't know the exact numbers

Combining 1 & 2: No new information is provided.

We need the sum of a list of integers.
avg = sum/n
sum = avg*n

So to find the sum we need the average of the numbers and the number of integers.

From statement (1) n = 8 ; but we do not know the average --> INSUFF

From statement (2) n^2 = 64 ---> n =8 ; we still do not know the average --> INSUFF

Both statements are the same therefore ans --> (E)
