As all we're given are equations, we'll go for simplification.
This is a Precise approach.

(1) This simplifies to (2x-1)^2 = 0 meaning that x = 1/2.
Sufficient.

(2) This simplifies to x^2 = 1/4 meaning that x = 1/2 or x = -1/2
Insufficient.

(A) is our answer.
