What is the value of |x|?
(1) |x^2 + 16| – 5 = 27
(2) x^2 = 8x – 16

We need to find value of |x|
St 1 can be written as |x^2+16|=32
for x=4,-4 the expression is correct so the value of |x|=4 Sufficient
St2 says \(x^2-8x+16=0\) or (x-4)^2 =0 or |x-4|=0 so for x=4 the expression is satisfied so |x|=4

Statement 1: |\(x^2\) + 16| – 5 = 27 or |\(x^2\) + 16| = 32
We can take out the positive numbers from the modulus sign
Square of any number is always positive
Therefore, \(x^2\) + 16 = 32
\(x^2\) = 16
Hence |x| = 4
SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: \(x^2\) = 8x – 16
\(x^2\) - 8x + 16= 0
\({(x-4)}^2\) = 0
|x-4| = 0
|x| = 4
SUFFICIENT
