Both statements 1 and 2 are equivalent but masked.

x = ?

1) 2 variable, 1 equation => Not sufficient
2) 2 variable, 1 equation

Simplify: 2 (x + 2y) = 2*6
Stmt 2 = Stmt 1

=> Not sufficient
