(1) We do not know whether x and y are integers. Hence, there are infinite possibilities --> Insufficient.
(2) We do not know the values of x and y -- Insufficient.
Combined:
We know that xy = 5 and x & y are integers. So the possibilities are:
x = 5 and y = 1; x = 1 and y = 5; x = -1 and y = -5; x = -5 and y = -1. For all of them |x - y| = 4. Hence, the answer is (C).
