is it a 600-700 question???
looks like a sub-600 one...

ok so:
(1) y^2 -7y +12=0
factor it: (y-3)(y-4)=0
y=3 or y=4 ->insufficient
(2) clearly insufficient
(1)+(2) y=3 or y=4 insufficient. answer is E.

Statement 1 gives us two values of y = 3 and 4. We need exactly 1 value so this is insufficient.

Statement 2 does not give any important information.

Even when we combine statement 1 and 2, we cannot reach to value of y.

E is the correct answer

Target question: What is the value of y?

Statement 1: y² - 7y + 12 = 0
Factor to get: (x - 3)(x - 4) = 0
So, EITHER x = 3 OR x = 4
Since we can’t answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: y > 0
Statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT

Statements 1 and 2 combined
Statement 1 tells us that EITHER x = 3 OR x = 4
Statement 2 tells us that y is positive
So, it could be the case that x = 3 OR x = 4
Since we still can’t answer the target question with certainty, the combined statements are NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer: E

y^2 - 7y + 12

y^2 - 4y - 3y + 12

Y ( y - 4 ) - 3 ( y - 4 )

( y - 4 ) ( y - 3 )

y = 4 , y = 3 - INSUFFICIENT ( X )

2) Y > 0

Still don't know a definite value of Y -- INSUFFICIENT ( X )

Combining 1 and 2

Still having 2 Values - 4 and 3.
