What is wrong with this sentence???

Whether the use of the past subjunctive mood is acceptable or not depends upon whether you are simply fancying something without the possibility of the fancy ever occurring. For example, you are correct in saying: If I were the President of America, I will ban any one from Asia settling in the US. Because in this case, you are never ever likely to be the President of America. Similarly you are right when you say - If I were to reach the moon, I will never again visit the earth. - You are simply fancying about reaching the moon.

But when some thing is quite within reach, the past subjunctive mood is not acceptable,

You can’t say: if I were to settle in Mumbai, I would rather choose a house in World. Here you have to use the simple conditional if I was, because settling in Mumbai is not such an impossible thing.

Is the difference now perceptible?
