Hi All,
Have the following questions or concerns regarding the very fact of pursuing an MBA...
1.) Have about 1 year of experience as a software developer..
2.) Have about 5 years of experience in a small telecom startup as an integration engineer.Company deals with wireless operators around the world.The company has about less than 50 employees in the US. Almost all the people employed here in the US have technical jobs and there are no pure program managers (MBA graduates) as such. There is not much value that an MBA can add to my current job profile. But I am still keen on pursuing one, just so that I can break through the ceiling of an "engineering job"...
3.) Are there any other ppl having a similar work experience who went ahead and pursued the MBA?
4.) If yes, what kind of specialization was it?
5.) What are the kind of typical job opportunities would I be looking at, after the MBA?
If any one of you could provide some feedback, I would really appreciate it..

I was/am also a software developer who spent some time in telecom as well, so I've gone through a lot of the same questions.
My first piece of advice to you is reflect on what you're really passionate about. What kind of career do you want? What types of industries and functions are appealing to you? These questions are vital because the MBA, if executed well, can take you to many new places regardless of your pre-MBA background.
So, yeah, take some time to figure that out. If it turns out that building upon your previous experience is important to you, and you like technology, and even telecom (God bless you), then here are some example opportunities I've seen through the Ross job board at least:
Intel, Accelerated Leadership Institute - rotational program (corporate, tech & manufacturing, business management), and then kick out to one of them
Sprint, Various - could take a position in strategy, brand management, operations, product management.
AT&T, Leadership Development Program - typical rotational program
AT&T, Corporate Development - more M&A type stuff
Amazon.com, Product Manager - work as a business manager leading a team of software engineers to add value.
NVIDIA, Product Manager - positioning, pricing, forecasting, etc. Looking specifically for CS backgrounds.
So maybe that will get you thinking some about where your background fits. Maybe a management development program, maybe technology consulting with someone like Deloitte or Accenture, or maybe product management which can vary between companies. Interesting that Amazon's sounds like IT project management, but NVIDIA's is more marketing based.
