Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to read my first post. Which MBA program would be the best fit for me? Looking to apply for Fall 2016 semester.
Past Experiences:
University of Maryland: College Park Undergrad in Economics 2.664 Cumulative GPA (Should've picked an easier major or better professors/classes, I know FML).
Office of the Comptroller of the Currency Financial Auditing Intern (2 summers).
Pacific Dental Services Talent Acquisition Coordinator (1 year)
Penske Trunk Rental Manager Trainee (8 months), Assistant Rental Manager/Maybe Branch Rental Manager (4 months)-->This is anticipated, right now I am in month 2 of Penske. Will be assistant rental manager at start time of business school.
Coupling my SAT, how hard I'll study for the test, and a practice exam my predicted GMAT score will be 670. I think my application will be solid too.
I'm also an Under Represented Minority.
Future Aspirations: MBA in Strategic Management, right now plan to apply to Georgetown and UMD: College Park.
Questions: Are these schools attainable with my background? What other schools should I apply to? Are there any scholarships available to me? Should I go part-time or full-time? What's the best GMAT prep class, thinking Princeton Review? Should I try to get in to a statistics/finance/consulting position now with my econ degree?
The reason why I'm going for an MBA this soon in my career is that I want to jump up my pay grade by a lot. I'm worth a lot more than these employers are making me out to be, but I can't convey it due to my low GPA, so I need a reset and going for an MBA will do that. If I would've known the job market and employer perceptions of students, I would've majored in American History, got a 4.0, and went straight through to a Masters program ensuring a 70k+ salary upon graduation.
I recommend looking at part-time programs, partly because you will be able to get into a more prestigious program if you are part-time. That said, in order to be competitive at the schools you mentioned, you will need different work experience. To be frank, your experience isn't enough to have a realistic chance of getting into Georgetown, with Maryland being a stretch.
While getting a new position will help, it's easier said than done. I do a lot of career advising and I'd be happy to work with you on trying to get the right job to improve your application. Send me a note
scott@personalmbacoach.com Regarding GMAT, I can make some suggestions when we talk as there are advantages and disadvantages to a lot of support out there and I can connect you with some good help as well.
I would like to understand your profile in a bit more detail and determine your GMAT score and the job you'll apply with before suggesting schools for you.
