What Motivates You To Write?

Question

Just curious what different members use for motivation to write (your essays), do you write in sprints and then come back to it a few days later, or is it pretty much 24/7 when you're free its focusing on bschool?

I'm finding for myself if I come back to it 2 days later, I can often see something I missed vs trying to just hammer it out night after night.

well after writting so many similar ones i start copy and pasting sections and do research on the rest. I get most "excitement" if the question is unique and i actually have to think a bit.

in all honesty, my passion and motivation comes in waves. I've finished 90% of my essays in a span of 2 months, and I'm losing that motivation currently. I have 2 more essays to write for round 1 target, which I believe I can dump out in two weeks. I just need to find that motivation...maybe today...YES TODAY! TODAY WILL BE THE DAY!

okay, I've just psyched myself out...

Anyway, just like shaselai said, most of the essays are really just a mere image of each other. For example, you'll see "why MBA" and "why now" in so many different school's application and in so many different formats that you can simply just copy/paste most, if not all of your stuff. Then do the correction and research later on. But yes, my motivation comes and goes...I'm losting that motivation again...damn it...

I have a really weird style of writing. The first draft, I write in the most obscene times. I usually get waves of ideas, but I don't write them down. Instead I have a notepad in which I jot down ideas and then at one point, when I want to write the essay I look at this and just start writing without really bothering about sentence structure etc. Then I let it rest overnight and then I review it.

This was not for BSchool, but it worked well so far

I've got a friend who's also applying to business schools (though only one overlap), and each weekend we exchange and edit one school's essays. I don't want to get behind him so it's a good motivator.

I have to make some ideas as i am unable to make the quality lines and no creativity is there...fearing for writing section.

I look at the admissions brochures and all the smiling faces studying at my dream schools and then think to myself - 'that could be my pic on one of these next year, if only I get off my ass and start writing'. Works every time.

I give myself aggressive deadlines to complete the essays - I work better under pressure. I mull over something when I'm out for a run or I sleep on it. As for execution, I found that writing at a coffee shop has helped - yeah, I admit, I'm one of those guys with their laptops sipping coffee and pretending to work, except I'm not quite pretending all the time
