800 is increased BY 50%, i.e 800 is increased by 50% of 800 = 400
1) 800+400 = 1200
This number is now decreased BY 30%, i.e. 1200 is decreased by 30% of 1200 = 360
2) 1200-360 = 840

What number is yielded when 800 is increased by 50% and then decreased by 30%?
Since same number is increased and then resultant number is decreased so we can
use formula of successive change to get the resultant increase or decrease.
Successive increase or decrease in percentage= \(a+b+\frac{ab}{100}\\
\)
Here, a=50, b=-30
Successive increase or decrease in percentage=\(50-30+ \frac{50*(-30)}{100}\) =5
This implies that there is a resultant increase of 5%
Increase of 5% in 800=40
Resultant number=800+40=840
Hence, A
