Hi Morgan1213,

First off, a 710/Q46 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest might not be necessary. The Q46 might be an issue if you're interested in highly-competitive Finance Programs (or other Specialty Programs), so retesting with the goal of raising your Quant Scaled Score would make sense (but really only under those specific conditions). Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

If you do choose to retest though, then we have to examine how you have studied so far:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what you should work on to score higher. If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Thank you all.

This is all good to know. Are there any schools in particular with the finance emphasis that I should be aware of for my quant score? Ironic that he finance programs would be a problem considering I have a masters of accounting, but such is life. Below is a little more information related to the questions I have seen.

I was mostly thinking of retaking the exam for the quant score because I had heard schools want to see 49 or 50. I usually do pretty well on the verbal and feel like if I just stay current I can score well there.

I have been studying for quite sometime, about five months and because I didn’t have much else going on during the pandemic I was able to study 3-5 hours a day. I have been through the entire Kaplan course and most of their Q-bank questions.

I took my mocks about once a week for the last 6 weeks before my exam. With quant scores ranging from 46-49 usually getting a 47 or 48. Verbal was usually around 41-42 although I did get one 47.

I am not planning on applying for school for two years. I knew scores were valid for 5 years and I had time on my hands because I was working from home and work was slow. I am hoping to go to a top 15 school, of course the higher the better, but am mostly focused on Stanford, Berkley, or UCLA because it’s easy for my family to be in California m, however, that isn’t a dealbreaker. I would be very open to going to any school that was good and will let me in.

With this information, I would vote for you give another shot. A V42 is great but Q46(not a bad score) certainly would raise eyebrows at Bschools of your choice but that also depends what are presenting in your application and your background.

In two years you would yourself want to give it again and you should. Someone with Q46 can easily reach Q49 if they work upon the errors - a little more focussed approach can lead to Q50, who knows Q51 :) .

While i won't vouch for any courses, but you should definitely look into GMATClub Tests or Veritas or Manhattan in descending order preference. Again coming to verbal you should not count on V47 which happened only once but certainly you can try for V43-44 probably after 10 months, if not in near future. You can have fresh questions next year which will help (assuming you are out of Official questions).

All the best.

Hi Morggan 1213,

Based on everything you said regarding how you were studying as well as the fact that you have a few years before you plan to apply, I would retake the GMAT. Regarding possible resources to use moving forward, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant courses and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!

I just received my online GMAT score and got a 710 (46Q/42V). I know this is a good score but I was hoping to do a little better, I got a 760 on my last Official GMAT practice test. I am hoping to go to a top MBA program and I have two questions.

1. Should I send my 710 score considering it’s js 700+, so it’s good but not great? If it helps to answer, I have a 3.92 GPA and am an M&A consultant at a Big 4 Accounting firm.
2. The more important question is, how should
I study going forward?

I was using the Kaplan self study program, but I feel like I have gotten everything out of it. It helped me a lot with verbal, on practice tests I have gotten 47 on verbal before. But I seemed to hit a ceiling on quant, the Kaplan questions don’t seem to push me anymore, and usually score between 46-48. My Kaplan recourses are also expiring and seem to cost too much for me to want to extend. I have thought about just going and taking the test again without too much additional studying, just doing a few more practice tests to stay fresh. But also think it would be smart to get a little bit more targeted/guided practice. Is there another service I could use to study, maybe one specifically for people who got a decent score as just want to improve a few points? I didn’t really use the official gmat guide/questions, I only did one of the official practice tests from them.

Thank you!

Hey Morgan1231,

I completely understand your concerns. It is really tough to invest in another course when you have already invested too much in one. For the students like you, who have scored well and wish to push their score beyond, we have started a scholarship program in which we offer the course for an affordable price. I think this suits your situation well.

For that, I would need a confirmation that you scored a 710. I wouldn't ask you to post here. A better way would be to discuss the same over a call so that we can quickly negotiate things and narrow down what could be the best thing to do. The call is absolutely free. So, if you wish to connect over a call, you can schedule it using the below link. Looking forward to helping you achieve your dream score. All the best!
