Since you did not mention data insights, I assume you’re taking GMAT classic.

I would say that you can improve fairly well and steadily to about 80% but the last 20% of the hardest in any section. most people find sentence correction to be the easiest, fold by critical reasoning and everyone usually finds reading comprehension to be the hardest.

I would recommend that you get to 80% in all of the verbal question types. After that, you can focus on sentence correction and critical reasoning. If you find sentence correction extra difficult, you can always switch to the focus version. You will not have to deal with sentence correction but you will have to face data sights…

Hello and thanks for your answer! What do you mean with about 80%? 80% of what? Im doing GMAT Classic!

Hello dear GMATclub,

Im currently studying for the gmat that i have in about a month and i'm on track for my quant score but verbal is way harder to improve on imo (im non native). Which part of the verbal part would you guys say that i should focus on? In other words, which part of the verbal part is easiest and least time consuming to improve on? I dont need that much extra points (about 5 extra verbal would get me there) to get my wanted score. Also, how would you do?

Thank you guys!
Hi rolle44,

I agree with bb: (for most people) SC, CR, RC. RC usually needs the maximum time/effort for any real improvement.

Might be helpful to mention your section score on Verbal. For CR, consider checking out Manhattan-Prep's 6th Edition for Critical Reasoning. For RC, becoming familiar with how inference questions work could be helpful as well. Fair to say including official questions/official mocks into your prep path would be a solid choice. You can get e-versions of different guides from the MBA website.

SC Idiom list - may help that part a bit

I would say CR is the verbal topic that students can master faster than they can master RC and SC.

RC is largely dependent on how good of a reader you are, and it's difficult to become a good reader in a short amount of time.

SC has a ton of rules to remember.

We've shown our clients that you don't need to know a lot of grammar rules to do well on GMAT SC. Ultimately, the GMAT is a test of executive reasoning and they give you two paths to the right answer -- one that uses great reasoning skills and a some degree of conceptual (rules) knowledge. The other depends on a mastery of grammar rules.

If you get the approach right, then SC is quick to improve on.
