we don't know the salaries of rest 11 employees , may be greater or smaller than these 12 employees . so we can't arrange all the salaries, so how is possible to find median? rather i think it is possible to find mode, not median.

preetamsaha It really doesn't matter!!!

For Ex - We have 5 members with 3 of them have 10 $ and we don't know abt remaining 2

If remaining two have 1 each median will 10$.

If remaining two have 20 each median will 10$.

To calculate median salary, we need to know
1. Number of employees
2. The salaries

Statement 1: Number of employees=23
Salary not mentioned
Insufficient
Statement 2: Salary of 12 employees= 24000
Without the number of employees there is no way to calculate the median
Insufficient
Both statements together:
23 employees and 12 have salary of 24000
If the 1st 12 employees have salary 24000, median= salary of 12th employee= 24000
If the last 12 employees have salary 24000, median= salary of 12th employee= 24000
Sufficient

I got little confused with Statement 2.
I thought the sum of salaries of 12 employees = 24000.

How to differentiate between sum of salaries of 12 employee and each employee having salary of 24000 ?

What was the median annual salary for the employees at Company X last year?
Statement 1 : Last year there were 23 employees at Company X.
no information about the salaries of any of those 23 employees . insufficient

Statement 2 : Last year 12 employees at Company X had an annual salary of $24,000.
no information about the total no of employees and salaries of the other employees. insufficient

Combining Both Statements :
Last year there were 23 employees at Company X and 12 employees at Company X had an annual salary of $24,000.
since, we know the equal salary of 12 employees , the rest 11 employees's salaries are not required to find the median (12th ) salary. sufficient

answer C
This doesnt make any sense....What if the last 11 was more than 24,000?... that means the median will not be 24000....this doesnt make any sense
