Thanks B.B.!
Yes as you can read in the link, generally you do NOT need to directly convert your Indian GPA to a US 4.0 scale style GPA. Schools are versed in the grading scales of countries around the world and will assess on your own merit within your educational system. So that should take some of the stress off right away. You are not as far away from the averages at US b-schools as you may have initially thought (and again that link did have some somewhat attempts to convert for a rough approximation/when needed).
In terms of getting into business school, schools are looking for applicants who will add to and enrich their class (in terms of past life experiences; industry & role; leadership experiences and potential; community experiences; international experiences; background; perspective; goals; etc), evidenced through your resume, application questions, recommendations & essays; and who can handle the academic rigor of business school (as evidenced through your GMAT & GPA-- so make sure you focus on doing your absolute best on that GMAT no matter what!). They will look at your past experiences, your current motivations for business school, and your future career goals. They will look at your leadership and management potential based on all of your past experience. So they'll definitely be digging deeper than just looking at your role and # of years of work experience.... to further evaluate your chances, we'd need to dig deeper too. But generally I would suggest that you aim for schools that have an average GMAT score that is fairly close to what you end up scoring, for better odds of acceptance, or within 30-50 points of your score in an ideal world. It's a good starting point at least. But there are lots of factors to consider when looking at schools, including employment statistics, geographic region, curriculum, class size, specialties, and much more.
