What´s wrong with this sentence?
A number of linguists contend that the world´s five billion people speak thousands of languages of which all can be traced.
OG says that "the world´s five billion people" could not be the subject of the sentence...I don´t understand why not
can anyone explain?

Try to reahd this one more carefully:
Subject of this sentence is A number of linguistis who contend
Of which can be traced here seems to modifiy the languages, while gramatically it should be attached to the subject - i.e. linguists. If we assume that it's the linguists who can be traced, we would distort the meaning of the sentence.
It's a rather difficult case involving a misplaced modifier.
