When 100 mice were injected with a certain chemical, some developed inflammation at the site of the injection and some developed the condition of nausea. How many of the mice developed inflammation but not nausea?
(1) 88 mice developed neither inflammation nor nausea.
(2) 2 mice developed nausea.

We can represent the problem with a 4 x4 table:
- Inflammation ---- No Inflammation ---- TOTAL
- X Z W
- Y T R
- U V 100
The reading is as follows:
X+Z = W
Y+T = R
X+Y = U
T+Y = V
U+V=100 = W+R
We are looking for inflammation and no nausea which is the Y position
Statement 1 is the value of T: Not enough to see the relation with Y and 100: Insufficient
Statement 2 is the value of W: Not enough to see the relation with Y and 100: Insufficent
Answer is C or E
Now with both statement together we have:
R = 100-2 = 98
Y = 98 - 88 = 10
Correct answer is C

Sorry I have a question: Why should we not consider the possible values of the ones with both nausea and inflammation?
We are told only that 88 have neither of them, so 100-88 gives us the ones who will experience nausea, inflammation OR both. With 2 having nausea and we can figure out that 10 will have inflammation, but we don't know how many will have both.
The text is not explicit on the fact that having infection exclude having nausea.
Because of that I would have answered E.
