When N/12 it leaves a remainder of X, and when N/24, it leaves a remainder Y. The Key is they have provided that X and Y are different, that is only possible if N>12 and N<24. Because, N<12 will be produce X and Y to be same. Similarly, N>24, (since 24 = 2*12) will produce X and Y same.
Now, plugging in values is the best way forward forward. For X=1, N becomes 13 and so does Y becomes 13 when N/24. But that's not in option.
