When an experiment is conducted 3 times, with the experiments being independent of one another, the probability that an event A occurs exactly 0, 1, or 2 times is \(\frac{98}{125}\). What is the probability that event A occurs when the experiment is conducted once?

A. \(\frac{1}{125}\)

B. \(\frac{27}{125}\)

C. \(\frac{1}{2}\)

D. \(\frac{14}{25}\)

E. \(\frac{3}{5}\)

let probability that event A occurs is p
the probability that an event A occurs exactly 0, 1, or 2 times = 1 - probability that even occurs exactly 3 times = 1 - p^3 = 98/125

p = 3/5

When an experiment is conducted 3 times, with the experiments being independent of one another, the probability that an event A occurs exactly 0, 1, or 2 times is \(\frac{98}{125}\). What is the probability that event A occurs when the experiment is conducted once?

Let the probability that event A occurs when the experiment is conducted once be P.
Therefore, the probability that event A occurs thrice when the experiment is conducted 3 times = \(P*P*P\) -> Equation 1
Also, the probability that event A occurs thrice when the experiment is conducted 3 times = 1 - the probability that event A occurs exactly 0, 1, or 2 times = \(1-\frac{98}{125} = \frac{27}{125}\) -> Equation 2

Equate equations 1 & 2
\(P^{3} = \frac{27}{125}\)
Therefore, \(P = \frac{3}{5}\)

Hence, Option E is correct.
