Would refers to expectation ,hypothetical situtation or assummption, but (A) refers to some finding ,so Incorrect

(B). When an incumbent queen ant in a termite colony dies, each of the many potential females, lying in anxious wait, are
Each ==>Singlular Sensation, (B) has "are" , so Incorrect.

(C). When an incumbent queen ant in a termite colony dies, many potential females, which each lies in anxious wait, is
Many Potential females ==> Plural, (c) has "is", so Incorrect.

(D) When an incumbent queen ant in a termite colony dies, many potential females, each of which lies in anxious wait, is
Many Potential females ==> Plural, (c) has "is", so Incorrect.

(E). When an incumbent queen ant in a termite colony dies, many potential females lie in anxious wait,
Correctly explains the intended meaning.(also because all the others are wrong)

(E) is the least wordy and correctly eliminates the use of the word of would.
