Hello!

Early, I now. But I was looking to book a vacation at the end of the year and I will be applying this year. I can either go around Thanksgiving time or during Xmas and NYE. Which would make more sense if I want to ensure I am in the country for the interviews?

It's great to be thinking about things so early so good idea to be checking now. Each school has different timelines so if you have a sense of what schools you'll be applying to, take a look at their application deadlines for this past year since they will likely use similar deadline/notification dates for next year. Some schools, like HBS, start the application process early, for example for Round 1 applicants, interview invitations started to go out around early-to-mid October and most were likely conducted up through November (since decisions started going out Dec 10th). A lot of MBA programs have their Round 1 deadlines in early October so their interviews are likely a little later.
I'm not sure where you're traveling to or for how long but if you can keep the length of the trip so it's not too long, that will give you more flexibility for interviewing. A lot of schools also understand that applicants have to make travel arrangements so often candidates can select interview dates around their schedule (however in some cases there is not as much flexibility).
