total no.of books =T=5k+1

1. When the books were stacked in rows of 7, 1 book was left
T= 7m+1 =5k+1
7m=5k = 35 p
where p =1 or 2 or 3
insuffcient
2. When the books were stacked in rows of 8, 4 books were left
T=5k+1=8n+4
5k= 8n+3
when n=4 k=7 T= 36
when n=9 k=15 T= 76
insuffcient

combine both

35 p =8n+3
when n=4 p=1 T=36
n=14 p=3 T=116

insuffcient
