I want to take the GMAT soon, but I also want the opportunity to retake if necessary before R2 applications are due. I know there must be a 31 day period between tests. My first R2 application is due January 3rd. So when is the latest I can take the GMAT, while also having the chance to retake it before January 3rd? Do I have to wait 31 days or can I take it on the 31st day?
Also, when does the GMAT have to be taken in order for scores to be reported on time? Can I take it on January 3rd or do I have to take it sooner?
Take it this month and if you need to retake, retake it in Dec. This is the only way you can catch your deadline.

I am scheduled to take it on the 29th. So, if I wanted to retake it I could retake it before January 3rd (Duke's deadline).
I pulled this from Wharton's website..."GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test): We require ALL applicants to provide the GMAT. Request MBA.com to report your score for the GMAT to Wharton. We evaluate only GMAT results from tests taken prior to the receipt of your application. The highest score is used and we do not combine multiple scores. GMAT scores are valid for five years."
Does that mean that if I take the test on January 3rd and report those scores on my application, it is alright if the official score report is not received until after the deadline?
why risk one year over something you have no control on? think of all the things that can go wrong: technical issues, test center problems, you getting sick, etc.
I think that it 1-2 days won't make a difference anyway.
If I were you, I would just plan on taking it sooner, like Eileen, or not take it at all until you are sure you'll make it (which is what I'll do)
Hey, but that's just me It may work for you otherwise. Good luck!

Good points. Right now I have it scheduled so that I can take it twice (if needed) before my first R2 application is due. I'll just keep it that way.
