IMO the subject of the entire sentence is "one" you can not change subjects.

When one is faced with a particularly grueling challenge, ---------------------------------------------> incomplete clause, not and independent clause
the alternative that is least likely to disrupt the status quo is often the one that one chooses. ----> also not an IC

together they form and IC

becuase these are both not ICs then they must share a subject. Meaning "one" must remain as the subject in both instances hope this helps

I think this question tests the issue of replacing one with you and vice versa. We can use either one or you . Cannot interchange them

Option A : uses one all along
Option B : one and you
Option C : you and one
Option D : one and you
Option E : you and one
