When you scan the answer choices, you can see that the phrases “as a result of the fact” in (D) and “as a consequence of the fact”in (E) are unnecessary:elim- inate the two longest answer choices. Since the sen- tence describes events that took place in the past, “take”in (A) and (C) is wrong;“took”in (B) is right.
