Given that When the positive integer w is divided by 13, the remainder is 1, and when w is divided by 15, the remainder is 14 and we need to find which of the following is a possible value for w?
Easiest way to solve this is Substitution. Lets take each option choice and divide by 13 and 15 and see which one gives 1 and 14 remainder respectively.
A. 14
14 when divided by 13 gives 1 remainder and when divided by 15 gives 14 remainder
=> TRUE. In test conditions, we do not need to try further but i am solving to complete the solution!
B. 17
17 when divided by 13 gives 4 remainder => FALSE
C. 29
17 when divided by 13 gives 3 remainder => FALSE
D. 40
40 when divided by 13 gives 1 remainder and when divided by 15 gives 10 remainder => FALSE
E. 44
44 when divided by 13 gives 5 remainder => FALSE
So, Answer will be A
