The first time I took the GMAT I took it on a Sat morning and since I could only take full tests on weekends, my last practice tests was the Sun before - 6 days earlier. Not having done any practice questions, other than writing essays (which I was so worried about), those 6 days before the test made me feel kinda rusty on test day.
The second time I took it was at 8:00am on a Monday morning. I remember studying heavily the whole weekend, putting 20+ hrs through 8pm on Sunday night. That coupled with my inability to sleep that night made me feel really burned/tired the next morning. Lack of sleep sure doesn't help but I think even when you haven't slept it doesn't really hit you until around noon time - and my exam was over by then. So, I think it was the over-studying that killed me. I should've probably taken the whole Sunday off.
I am taking the test again next Sat at 4:30pm!!! Yes, I could only take it on weekends and there was no other timeslot available. So, the question is, when is the best time to stop studying? I know there is a trade-off since taking too many days off may get you rusty; on the other hand, overstudying burns you and can have an even more detrimental effect.
I think I'm definitely taking the test day off, doing usual Sat activities - go jogging, then run errands, then go swim and tan, maybe try to take an hour nap in the afternoon right before the test. But how about Fri night? Should I use it just to review or take it entirely off?
Please, advice.
