I was thinking of using the OG in my GMAT preparation but someone told me that OG and the GMATprep official software have the same questions so if I use the OG then I ill ruin the official tests for me. Is this the case?

I would ignore that piece of advice. Using OG will not "ruin" the effectiveness of GMATPrep in assessing your weaknesses and strengths. Use GMATPrep practice test to get a general sense of where you stand. The exact number isn't as important. What's more important is that you actually get a sense of the types of questions you might actually see on the real test --- and you get the opportunity to learn from those mistakes before you go in to the test center.
So use OG. And use GMATPrep. These are by far the best resources to use.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone seeing a question from the OG13/GMAT2015 (they're the same book) on any of the GMAC Practice CATs, so you don't have anything to worry about there. IF you retake one of those practice CATs or use the software incorrectly, then you might see some repeat questions though. You'll also see those questions discussed in various online Forums, so you should be careful about how many random questions you use from these Forums for practice (because seeing the questions again when you take the CAT will make that CAT result unrealistic). Those GMAC resources are quite useful during one's studies, so there's a strong argument that you should get at least one of the books and the free software.
