I am taking extension courses myself to build an alt transcript and supplement my ug gpa, and when I was researching what courses to take I was told that adcom looks for the basic courses in statistics(which you have), accounting, and calc I.

Thanks Johnny. Quick question: are you taking classes for undergrad or graduate credit?

Neither, I'm taking them as non-matriculating courses via UCLA Extension Online. So far I have taken Math for Management (which is basically financial modeling) and Business Statistics which I both got As in, and I plan on taking an Intro to Corp Finance in the Fall while finishing up my essays. They dont actually count towards a certificate or degree, I am taking them to help offset my undergrad gpa which is below the range of my target programs and to better acclimate myself to mba-type business courses since I plan on career switching from Engineering to Finance post MBA. Hope this helps.

Has anyone taken the self study online classes where you take a proctored exam at the end? I need to take one additional course but it's not open till the fall, and I am targeting round 1 deadlines. Just want to hear anyone's thoughts on a self study quant course/how its viewed as opposed to the standard in class experience. Alternately, if anyone knows any online sessions starting up soon, please share!

In terms how the self-study online courses vs standard in-class experience are viewed by the adcom, the best way to find out is to ask the adcom of your targeted schools.
When I was in the application process, either Smith or McDonough part-time MBA adcom suggested to take the online calculus course from https://www.graduateschool.edu. I don't remember which school suggested this, but I checked with the other one and they confirmed that a course from graduateschool.edu would be just fine. As far as I remember, you can start at any time and go at your own pace. They will connect you with your online instructor and you work out timeframes with him/her directly.
In the end, it turned out I did not need the class for application and I got admission without it to Smith and GWU, so I just dropped it, as I did not have time for it.
Bottom line, ask the adcom if the online course would be acceptable for them.
